Bumrungrad Hospital PCL is a multi-speciality hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. The Myanmar Investment Commission has granted a business permit for the group to open a clinic in Myanmar for the provision of healthcare.
The service will operate under the banner Bumrungrad Myanmar Co Ltd within which Yangon International Medical Services Co Ltd hold a minority stake.
Bumrungrad PCL is a public limited company and is listed on the Thailand Stock Exchange. The Thai hospital provides state of the art diagnostic, therapeutic and intensive care facilities in a one stop medical centre. They continually win awards for excellence and have international healthcare accreditation from the American private company Joint Commission International (JCI). It was the first Asian hospital to gain this accreditation. Bumrungrad was first accredited in 2002 and successfully accredited again in 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2014. Based on its market value it is the second largest provider of healthcare services in Thailand.
In the Bangkok location, Myanmar patient numbers are second only to those from Thailand – 66% of patients are from overseas. The facility opened in 1980 and now attends to 1.1 million patients per year. They work very closely with Orion Health, who provide enterprise level IT systems that harness big data to optimise provision of health services. The group has an experienced team of hospital administrators from the United States, Australia, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. The hospital’s medical chairman is board certified in the UK, and its group medical director is board certified in the United States.
They are not the only healthcare service providers, who are expanding across borders. Many see the growing populations, who are living longer and with higher incomes, as a major opportunity across South East Asia. The budget for international expansion is reported to be 11.4 billion baht ($320 million) during 2015-2018.
