Reports state that Capital Construction has been awarded the contract to build a new flyover at Kokkine Junction, by Kabaraye Pagoda Road and University Avenue Road. Also awarded is, apparently, a contract to Shwe Taung for a second flyover to be located at Tamwe Junction, although this has not yet been confirmed by Shwe Taung.
This follows the published plans from the Yangon Regional Government last December, stating these two flyovers would be built and a third at 8 mile Junction, crossing Pyay Road and Kaba Aye Pagoda Road. Tenders were issued in April and May.
Earlier this month, Japan Geological Survey & Laboratories Services started testing the soil strata at two of the sites. The Kokkine project is in Bahan Township. The budget is $10.5m and is due for completion in March 2016.
Capital Construction is part of the Capital Diamond Star Group. This is the third flyover project they have been awarded, the others being the Shwe Gon Daing flyover in Bahan Township and the Myay Ni Gone flyover in Sanchaung Township. The Tamwe Flyover will be at the junction of Banya Dala Road, U Chit Maung Road, East Race Course Road, Shwe Gon Daing Road and Kyaikasan Road. The flyover will reportedly be Y shaped.
These projects are in line with Government aims to reduce traffic congestion. The total budget for the flyovers is Ks 54.35 billion.
